Approximately 2009-2010. The airfield was decommissioned to allow for the construction of a solar park project that was initiated in 2008. The resulting power plant was officially commissioned and inaugurated in August 2011, confirming the airfield was permanently closed before this date.
Land redevelopment for commercial energy production. The site was sold and repurposed for the construction of a large-scale photovoltaic power plant. This conversion from aviation use to renewable energy generation was an economic and land-use decision.
The site is now fully occupied by the 'Parc Solaire de la Lanne' (also known as Centrale Photovoltaïque de Herm), a large solar farm. All traces of aviation infrastructure, including the grass runway and hangar, have been completely removed and replaced by rows of solar panels and associated electrical equipment. The land is no longer recognizable as a former airfield.
Aérodrome de Herm was a private airfield primarily dedicated to recreational ultralight (ULM / microlight) aviation. It was known locally as the 'Plateforme ULM de la Lanne' and was operated by the 'ULM Club de la Lanne'. It featured a single grass runway and a hangar. The airfield served the local general aviation community near Dax but did not handle commercial, scheduled, or significant military traffic. Its identifier, FR-0021, was a French national designator for small airfields and was not an official ICAO code recognized internationally.
There are no plans or prospects for reopening the aerodrome. The complete and permanent redevelopment of the land into a long-term industrial energy installation makes any return to aviation use virtually impossible.
