Taxis are the most common and convenient way to travel from the airport. They are typically available outside the terminal arrivals area. It is strongly recommended to negotiate and agree upon the fare with the driver before starting your trip, as meters are not always used. Many hotels also offer pre-arranged airport transfers.
Car rental services are available, though options can be limited. At Pemba, Mozambique (PMA), you may find desks for international and local agencies. At Pemba Island, Tanzania (PZB), rentals are more commonly arranged in advance through local operators or hotels. Booking ahead is highly recommended, especially if you require a 4x4 vehicle.
There is no formal, scheduled public bus or train service directly to or from Pemba Airport. The local public transport consists of informal minibuses (known as 'chapas' or 'dala-dalas'), which are generally not a practical option for travelers with luggage due to irregular schedules and crowding.
This is my first time in Africa and Pemba make me feel like the second home. Friendly dispatcher, people and nice town. Airport is small but warm welcome to everyone.
