Kasama Airport (IATA: KAA, ICAO: FLKS) is a key aviation facility serving Kasama, the provincial capital of Zambia's Northern Province. It functions as a vital link for government administration, business travel, and a growing tourism sector, providing access to regional attractions such as Chishimba Falls and the Mbala-Kalambo Falls heritage site. The airport's importance was significantly elevated following a major government-led upgrade. The modern infrastructure, officially commissioned in 2018, replaced an older, basic airstrip and was designed to handle larger aircraft and increase passenger capacity, positioning it as a strategic gateway to the country's northern circuit.

The airport is conveniently situated approximately 8 kilometers southwest of Kasama's town center. The journey to and from the airport typically takes around 15-20 minutes by car via the main M1 road. For travelers, the most common mode of transport is local taxis. While taxis are generally available to meet arriving flights, it is often advisable for visitors to pre-arrange transfers through their accommodation or a local operator to ensure a seamless connection upon arrival. There are no public bus services that run directly to the terminal.

Operations at Kasama Airport are focused on domestic travel. Proflight Zambia is the primary commercial carrier, operating scheduled flights that connect Kasama with Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) in Lusaka. These services are essential for linking the province with the national capital and international travel networks. In addition to scheduled passenger flights, the airport also accommodates charter services, private aircraft, and flights for medical and governmental purposes. Due to its regional role, the airport does not handle scheduled international flights.

Reflecting its status as a modern but small regional airport, the facilities are functional and streamlined. The single terminal building is clean and modern, equipped with check-in counters, a basic security screening area, and a comfortable waiting lounge for departing passengers. Restrooms are also available. Travelers should note that amenities are limited; there are no restaurants, large retail shops, or currency exchange services within the terminal. It is recommended to bring any necessary snacks, drinks, or reading material. For domestic departures, arriving 60 to 90 minutes before your scheduled flight is sufficient. Given the limited on-site transport options, confirming onward travel arrangements before landing in Kasama is a practical step for a smooth journey.
