Chipata Airport (FLCP (CIP)) is a small provincial aerodrome located approximately 9.3 kilometers northwest of Chipata, in Zambia's Eastern Province. It serves as a civil airport and is managed by the Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL).
The airport features a single asphalt-surfaced runway measuring 1,470 meters (4,823 ft) in length and 21 meters in width, identified as runway 18/36. It is situated at an elevation of 1,033 meters (3,389 ft) above sea level and lacks instrument landing systems (ILS). Chipata Airport primarily supports domestic general aviation and charter flights, contributing to local economic activities, particularly agriculture, and tourism, including access to South Luangwa National Park. There are no scheduled commercial passenger services, with previous operations by Proflight Zambia having been suspended in 2014.
Historically, the facility supported regional links and agricultural transport post-1946 under the Central African Airways Corporation, and transitioned to civilian operations after Zambia's independence in 1964. In 2025, the airport underwent significant rehabilitation, including runway resurfacing and facility upgrades, to enhance regional connectivity and tourism potential. It operates daily from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM local time. No fuel is available at the airport.
