🇨🇲 Tiko Airport

Tiko Airport (IATA: TKC, ICAO: FKKC) is a public airport that served Tiko, Cameroon, with an asphalt runway measuring 1,375 meters (4,511 ft). Historically, it was an international airport during the British administration of Southern Cameroons.

The airport was closed by the Yaounde Government and its facilities are currently dilapidated and non-operational for commercial passenger flights. While not open for public air travel, the runway is occasionally used by the military for chopper exercises, humanitarian organizations for relief deliveries, and for banana spraying planes.

In 2022, it was announced that the airport would be relocated and a new, modern airport constructed at a site in Misselele, approximately eight kilometers from the old location,. The new site in Misselele was chosen because the old airstrip's uneven terrain and limited space were deemed unsuitable for a modern airport capable of handling larger aircraft like the B737-700,. The government has allocated 255 hectares of land for the new airport, with 159 hectares for infrastructure and 106 hectares for future expansion. Construction is expected to begin once contractual obligations are finalized. The land of the former Tiko Airport remains state property and authorities have warned against encroachment.
