Tomelloso Airstrip

The exact reason for the closure is not publicly documented, a common situation for small, private airfields. The most probable cause is economic non-viability or the personal decision of the owner/operator to cease activities. There is no evidence to suggest it was closed due to a major accident, military conversion, or urban development pressure, as the location remains rural.

The site is currently abandoned and in a state of disuse. Satellite imagery confirms the dirt/gravel runway is still clearly visible but is unmaintained, eroded, and being slowly overgrown by vegetation. The land has effectively reverted to its surrounding agricultural use, which consists mainly of vineyards and other crops. Any associated structures, such as a small hangar or shed, appear derelict.

Known locally as 'Campo de Vuelo de Tomelloso', this was a private airstrip primarily used for ultralight (ULM) and general aviation activities. Its significance was local, serving as a base for recreational pilots, flight enthusiasts, and potentially a local aeroclub in the La Mancha region. It handled private, non-commercial flights and provided a valuable resource in an area with few aviation facilities. It did not have scheduled passenger or cargo services.

There are no known public plans, proposals, or prospects for the reopening of the Tomelloso Airstrip. For the facility to become operational again, it would require significant private investment from a new owner or a local aviation group to restore the runway, ensure regulatory compliance, and manage operations. Currently, its future remains inactive.
