Approximately mid-to-late 2009. The final closure was prompted by development plans that were finalized around this period.
The primary reason for the closure was urban and commercial development. The land on which the private airfield was located was sold for the construction of a large business and retail park named 'Parc Empresarial de Sant Pau de Riu-sec' (also marketed as 'Via Sabadell'). The expansion of Sabadell and the strategic location of the land next to the AP-7 motorway made it highly valuable for commercial use, leading to the airfield's displacement.
The site has been completely transformed and is unrecognizable as a former airfield. It is now the 'Parc Empresarial de Sant Pau de Riu-sec', a major commercial hub. The exact location of the former runway and facilities is now occupied by large retail stores such as IKEA, Leroy Merlin, and Decathlon, along with numerous other businesses, restaurants, warehouses, and extensive parking lots. The entire area has been fully developed.
Aeròdrom de Can Moragues was a significant private airfield for the recreational aviation community in the Barcelona region. Its operations were almost exclusively focused on ultralight aircraft (ULM) and light general aviation. It was home to at least one prominent flight school, 'Escola de Vol La Plana', which trained many ultralight pilots. The airfield consisted of a simple grass/dirt runway located on the grounds of the historic 'Masia de Can Moragues' farmhouse. For years, it served as a key social and operational hub for local pilots and aviation enthusiasts.
There are zero plans or prospects for reopening the airfield. The land has been permanently redeveloped for high-value commercial use, making any return to aviation activities impossible. The flight schools and private operators that used Can Moragues relocated to other airfields in Catalonia, such as the Aeròdrom de Moià-La Plana.
