🇵🇱 Kakolewo (former military) Airport

Kąkolewo Aerodrome (EPPG) is a former military airfield located in Kąkolewo, Greater Poland Voivodeship, Poland, at approximate coordinates 52°14′6″ N 16°14′34″ E. Its elevation is 95 meters (312 feet) MSL.

• Type of Facility: Kąkolewo Aerodrome is a public aerodrome with limited certification, managed by Aeroport Ltd., with main shareholders being Poznan Aero Club and Poznan University of Technology. It operates as a General Aviation aerodrome.
• Historical Significance: Established in the 1960s (estimated 1955-1957) as a military diversion aerodrome for fighter squadrons, including the 45th and 62nd Fighter Squadrons, and was equipped with an asphalt-concrete runway, taxiways, and apron adapted for MiG-21 jets. The Polish Army ceased using the aerodrome around 1995-1996, after which the area passed into private hands.
• Current Uses:
• It functions as a modern specialized training center for pilots, aviation mechanics, and air traffic controllers, with involvement from Poznan Aero Club and Poznan University of Technology.
• It serves as a research and development center for new aviation technologies, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), autonomous systems, and flight control technologies, under projects like "Aerosfera – Airport of Things".
• The aerodrome also supports public services aviation units, such as Police, Medical Air Rescue, agricultural aviation, and fire-fighting aviation.
• Runway Information: The aerodrome features an asphalt-concrete runway exceeding 2 kilometers in length and a parallel grass runway for glider training. It has one main runway designated 10/28.
