Moss Airport, Rygge serves Oslo, NO.
Moss Airport, Rygge (ENRY) was a joint military and civilian airport located in Rygge in Moss Municipality, Norway, approximately 60 km (37 mi) outside Oslo. It served Moss, Oslo, and Eastern Norway as a minor international and regional low-cost airport.
Notable Features and History: The civilian portion of the airport, operated by Rygge Sivile Lufthavn AS, began regular scheduled services on February 14, 2008, following an official opening on October 8, 2007. It was a significant base for Ryanair from March 2010 and also hosted Norwegian Air Shuttle. Moss Airport, Rygge was co-located with the Rygge Air Force Base, which has a military history dating back to 1954. Air traffic control services for the airport were operated by Avinor.
Current Status: Moss Airport, Rygge ceased all civilian traffic on November 1, 2016. The closure was primarily attributed to a new Norwegian air passenger charge, which led to Ryanair discontinuing its operations at the airport, rendering it uncompetitive. While there were discussions and plans for a potential reopening for commercial flights by 2019 and later in 2021, these did not come to fruition. The facility continues to operate as the Rygge Air Force Base, utilized by the Royal Norwegian Air Force for military operations. In 2021, the airport was temporarily used as a COVID-19 testing and vaccination center.
