Several local taxi companies serve the airport. It is essential to pre-book your taxi in advance, as they do not typically wait at the terminal for arriving flights. Taxis can take you to Wick, Thurso, John O'Groats, and other surrounding areas.
Car rental is available from local and national providers but must be arranged in advance. Companies typically operate on a 'meet and greet' basis, where a representative will meet you at the airport with your vehicle. There are no permanent car rental desks inside the terminal building.
There is no bus stop directly at the terminal. The nearest bus stop is located on the main A99 road, a 5-10 minute walk from the airport. Stagecoach bus services from this stop connect to Wick town centre and John O'Groats. The nearest train station is in Wick, approximately 2 miles (3 km) away, and is best reached by a pre-booked taxi.
This is a former RAF base from world war II which is the only one still using the original buildings. The FBO, Far North Aviation, is in the original tower. You feel very much into "Battle of Britain" here. Great service, very friendly, no hassles with the paperwork. A very nice place to land after or before crossing the pond. The approach is a LOC DME and the weather can be low, but even though it's called the Highlands there is nothing solid to hit near the airport. The local scotch (Old Pulteney) is excellent, as is the beer (the Real Mackay).
