- Current Uses: The site is primarily used by Cox Automotive for vehicle storage and auctions, with a portion retained by the Walton family for aircraft activities. Other uses include vehicle proving and testing, storage of vehicles, a museum for Cold War aircraft, car auctions, emergency services training, and various commercial and office facilities.
- Aviation Activities: While not a commercially licensed airport, it is registered for emergency landings and sees approximately 1,000 aircraft movements per year, mostly light aircraft. Museum exhibits have their engines tested monthly, and occasionally an exhibit for the museum or an airshow may be flown in.
- Historical Significance: Opened as RAF Bruntingthorpe in 1942, it hosted both the Royal Air Force and the United States Air Force. It was used as a training location for Vickers Wellington pilots and later as a test site for the Gloster Meteor, the RAF's first jet. In 1973, it was sold to Chrysler Motor Corporation for use as a vehicle proving ground. In 1997, the airfield was used by the FAA and CAA to conduct a test studying the effects of a terrorist bomb explosion on a Boeing 747.
