The airfield currently serves as the Training Center for Parachutists (TrgC Para) of the Belgian ParaCommandos. In addition to military use, it is utilized for recreational flying, including gliding and motorized flight, by the Diest Aeroclub. Civilian parachutists, glider pilots, and model aircraft enthusiasts also use its facilities. The airfield features one grass runway, designated 04/22 or 06/24, with a reported length of approximately 600 to 610 meters (1,968 to 2,001 feet). The elevation is around 92 to 101 feet MSL.
Historically, Schaffen Airfield was established around 1914 by the Imperial German Army during World War I. It was a significant base for the Belgian Air Force between the World Wars and saw use by both German and Allied forces during World War II. After the war, it housed the Belgian Air Force elementary flying school before becoming home to the Parachute Training Center.
