Approximately 2016. The airfield was officially noted as closed in aviation databases around this period. Satellite imagery from subsequent years confirms the cessation of aviation activity and the land's conversion.
Economic and land-use reasons. The airfield operated on privately owned, leased land. The landowner decided to terminate the lease agreement with the local flying club to return the property to full-time agricultural use, which was likely more profitable. This is a common fate for small, privately-operated airfields on leased farmland.
The site has been fully decommissioned and has reverted to agricultural land. The former grass runway is no longer maintained and has been plowed over, integrated into the surrounding fields for farming. Modern satellite imagery shows no visible remnants of aviation infrastructure like hangars, windsock, or runway markings. The land is actively farmed.
Nakskov Airfield was a small, private grass airstrip that served the local recreational aviation community. Its primary function was as the home base for the Lolland-Falsters UL-Flyveklub (Lolland-Falster Ultralight Flying Club). Operations consisted exclusively of general aviation, including ultralight flight training and recreational flying for club members. It had a single grass runway, oriented roughly 08/26, and basic facilities typical of a small flying club. The airfield held no commercial or military significance and was a hub for local aviation enthusiasts on the island of Lolland.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Nakskov Airfield. The land is in private hands and is used for agriculture. The local demand for such a facility is now met by the nearby Maribo Airport (EKMB), located approximately 25 km to the east, which serves the general aviation needs of the Lolland-Falster region. Re-establishing an airfield at this location would be prohibitively difficult and is considered highly unlikely.
