The airstrip is reported to have closed around 2010-2011. The exact date is not officially documented, but aviation databases and forums indicate that flight operations ceased during this period.
The closure was primarily due to economic and operational reasons. The local flying club, Bornholms Motorflyveklub (Bornholm Motor Flying Club), which was the main operator, eventually ceased operations at Bodilsker. This is a common fate for small, privately-owned airfields that struggle with maintenance costs, declining membership, and the availability of larger, publicly-funded airports nearby (in this case, Bornholm Airport, EKRN/RNN).
The site is no longer used for aviation. The outline of the former grass runway is still visible from satellite imagery, but it is overgrown and unmaintained. A large portion of the airfield, including areas of the former runway, has been repurposed and is now occupied by a significant solar panel farm. The land has been converted for renewable energy production.
Bodilsker Airstrip was a private general aviation (GA) airfield. It was established in the 1960s and served as the home for the Bornholms Motorflyveklub. Its primary function was to support recreational flying, flight training, and private pilots on the island of Bornholm. With its approximately 760-meter grass runway, it offered a more informal and accessible alternative for small aircraft compared to the main Bornholm Airport. It played a significant local role in the island's private aviation community for several decades, fostering a hub for aviation enthusiasts.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Bodilsker Airstrip. The installation of a large, permanent solar farm on the property makes a return to aviation activities extremely unlikely, as it represents a significant and long-term change in land use that physically obstructs the former operational area.
