Mittweida District Hospital Helipad

Relocation and Modernization. The ground-level helipad (DE-0831) was decommissioned and permanently replaced by a new, state-of-the-art rooftop helipad built atop a new wing of the hospital. This upgrade was undertaken to significantly improve patient care by providing a direct, weather-protected elevator link from the helipad to the hospital's central emergency room and intensive care units. The previous ground-level location required a secondary transfer of the patient by ambulance from the landing site to the hospital entrance, which was less efficient and added critical time to the transport process.

The site of the former ground-level helipad has been decommissioned and repurposed as part of the hospital grounds. The area has been integrated into the hospital's campus, likely converted into green space or parking. All air ambulance operations for the hospital now exclusively use the new rooftop helipad (ICAO: EDXM), which became fully operational in January 2020.

The Mittweida District Hospital Helipad (DE-0831) served as the primary air ambulance landing site for the Landkreis Mittweida Krankenhaus for many years. It was a vital component of the regional Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) network, handling operations for air rescue organizations like DRF Luftrettung and ADAC Luftrettung. The helipad facilitated the rapid transport of critically injured or ill patients, playing a crucial role in providing advanced emergency medical care to the population of the Mittweida district and surrounding areas before its replacement.

There are no plans or prospects for reopening the old helipad (DE-0831). It has been permanently superseded by the more advanced, safer, and more efficient rooftop facility. The closure was a planned and permanent upgrade to the hospital's infrastructure, making the old site obsolete.
