The airport was officially closed around 2009. The operating permit expired and was not renewed, with final flight operations ceasing in late 2008 to facilitate the site's redevelopment.
The closure was for economic and land development reasons. The municipality of Edemissen, where the airfield was located, designated the land for development as a commercial and industrial park ('Gewerbe- und Industriegebiet'). This was considered a more economically beneficial use for the land than maintaining a small general aviation airfield.
The site has been completely redeveloped and is now the 'Gewerbe- und Industriegebiet Peine-Eddesse Nord' (Peine-Eddesse North Commercial and Industrial Park). The former runway, hangars, and other airfield facilities have been entirely replaced by large industrial buildings, warehouses, and logistics centers for various companies. The only remaining public reference to its past is the street name 'Am Flugplatz' within the industrial park.
Flugplatz Peine-Eddesse was a 'Sonderlandeplatz' (a special-purpose airfield in Germany) that primarily served the general aviation community. For over 50 years, it was the home base of the local flying club, Flugsportverein Peine-Edemissen e.V. The airfield was a hub for recreational flying in the region, with operations including gliding (Segelflug), ultralight aviation (Ultraleichtflug), and powered light aircraft (Motorflug). It featured a grass runway of approximately 800 meters with an 08/26 orientation and was a significant local center for aviation enthusiasts.
There are zero plans or prospects for reopening the airport. The site has been fully and irreversibly converted into a thriving industrial park, making any return to aviation activities physically and economically impossible.
That's bad news -- thanks for the update.
