Approximately late 2017. The official notice of closure (NfL 1-1193-17) was issued by the Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS) and became effective on December 28, 2017.
Economic reasons and land repurposing. The owner of the land chose not to renew the operating license for the airfield, opting instead to lease or sell the property for a more profitable use, which ultimately became a solar energy farm.
The site has been completely repurposed and is no longer recognizable as an active airfield. A large photovoltaic solar park has been constructed on the former runway and adjacent areas. Satellite imagery clearly shows rows of solar panels covering the length of what was once the landing strip. The former hangars and buildings may be used for agricultural storage or maintenance for the solar farm, but the aviation infrastructure is gone.
Erpetshof UL was a 'Sonderlandeplatz' (Special Landing Site) primarily serving the recreational and sport aviation community. Its operations were focused on ultralight (UL) aircraft, motor gliders, and potentially some light single-engine aircraft. It featured a single grass runway (approximately 500-600 meters long) oriented roughly 08/26. The airfield was a local hub for private pilots and a flying club in the Vohenstrauß area, contributing to the local aviation scene. It did not handle commercial, cargo, or significant military traffic; its importance was purely for general and sport aviation.
Effectively zero. The construction of a permanent solar park on the airfield grounds represents a long-term, high-investment change in land use. Removing the extensive photovoltaic installation to re-establish a small, private airfield is financially and logistically unfeasible. The land is no longer designated for aviation use, and there are no known plans or movements to reverse this.
