Late 2007. The airfield officially ceased operations on December 31, 2007.
The closure was due to the personal reasons of the private operator, who decided to retire and cease operations ('aus AltersgrĂĽnden'). The decision was not a result of economic failure, major accidents, or military conversion.
The site has been completely repurposed. Since 2011, a significant portion of the former airfield grounds has been occupied by a large photovoltaic power plant known as 'Solarpark Repke'. The distinct outline of the runway is no longer visible on current satellite imagery, and the land is now used for renewable energy generation and surrounding agriculture. The original hangars and facilities have been removed.
Schnuckenheide-Repke was a privately-owned 'Sonderlandeplatz' (special landing site) that served the general aviation community in the Lower Saxony region, specifically around Celle and Uelzen. Its operations were focused on recreational and sport flying. It primarily handled ultralights, motor gliders, and small single-engine aircraft. The airfield featured a single grass runway (08/26), approximately 670 meters long, and was a local hub for private pilots and aviation enthusiasts. Its significance was entirely local and recreational, with no history of commercial or military use.
There are no plans or prospects for reopening the airfield. The construction of the large and permanent solar park on the property makes any future return to aviation use practically impossible.
