End of 2010. The airfield was officially closed to all flight operations on December 31, 2010.
Economic and urban development. The municipality of Staufenberg terminated the lease on the land to expand the adjacent 'Lutterberg' industrial park. The site was repurposed for commercial and logistics use to support the regional economy, becoming part of the GVZ Göttingen (Freight Village Göttingen).
The site has been completely redeveloped and is no longer recognizable as an airfield. It is now the 'GVZ Göttingen' / Lutterberg industrial and logistics park. The former runways and club facilities have been replaced by large warehouses, distribution centers, and associated infrastructure for companies such as the Rudolph Logistik Gruppe.
For nearly 60 years, the Staufenberg Glider Field was the home of the local air sports club, Luftsportverein Staufenberg-Nienhagen e.V. Established in the post-war era, it was a typical German club-operated airfield dedicated to recreational aviation. Its primary operations consisted of glider training and flying, utilizing both winch launches and aerotows. The field was a significant local hub for pilot education and air sports in the southern Lower Saxony region, fostering a vibrant community of aviation enthusiasts.
Zero. There are no plans or prospects for reopening the airfield. The land has been permanently and irreversibly converted to industrial use. The former operating club, Luftsportverein Staufenberg-Nienhagen, merged with another club in 2011 to form the 'FSC Dörnberg-Staufenberg e.V.' and successfully relocated its operations to the Dörnberg airfield (EDCD), ensuring the club's survival at a new location.
