Replacement and Modernization. The ground-level helipad was decommissioned and replaced by a new, state-of-the-art rooftop helipad built atop the hospital's new extension. This was part of a major modernization project at the Märkisch-Oderland Hospital to improve patient care, provide direct elevator access from the helipad to the emergency room and intensive care units, and meet the latest aviation and safety standards.
The site of the former ground-level helipad has been completely redeveloped. The physical helipad structure has been removed, and the area is now part of the expanded hospital campus, incorporating new buildings, access roads, and landscaped grounds. Helicopter operations now exclusively use the new rooftop helipad on the main hospital building.
The helipad, designated DE-0011, was the primary Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) landing site for the Krankenhaus Märkisch-Oderland (Märkisch-Oderland Hospital) in Strausberg. For many years, it was a critical piece of infrastructure for the regional emergency response system. It handled rescue helicopters, such as those from the DRF Luftrettung and ADAC Luftrettung (e.g., Christoph fleet), which transported critically injured or ill patients to the hospital's emergency department. Its operation was vital for providing rapid medical care to a large rural area east of Berlin.
There are no prospects for reopening this specific helipad (DE-0011). It has been permanently and intentionally replaced by a superior facility. The new rooftop helipad is fully operational and serves all the functions of the old one with greater efficiency and safety, making the former site redundant.
