The heliport was not closed due to economic issues or an accident, but was part of a planned hospital modernization. It was decommissioned and permanently replaced by a new, modern, elevated rooftop heliport (ICAO: LKHOHO) built on top of a new hospital pavilion. The new facility meets stricter contemporary aviation and medical standards, allows for 24/7 all-weather operations, and provides a much faster and more direct 'lift-to-door' transfer of patients to the hospital's emergency and intensive care units.
The physical site of the former heliport still exists as a paved, ground-level area adjacent to the hospital buildings. It is no longer certified or used for any aviation activities. Satellite imagery indicates the area has been repurposed and is now primarily used as a car park and service area for the hospital. All helicopter operations for the Hořovice Hospital now exclusively use the new rooftop heliport, LKHOHO.
The Hořovice Hospital Heliport (CZ-0033) was the original ground-level helipad serving the Hořovice Hospital. Its sole and critical function was to support Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS) operations, known in the Czech Republic as 'Letecká záchranná služba' (LZS). For many years, it was a vital piece of infrastructure for the Central Bohemian Region, enabling the rapid air transport of critically ill and injured patients to the hospital for specialized care. It played a significant role in the regional emergency response network, saving lives by drastically reducing transport times from accident scenes or other medical facilities.
There are zero prospects for reopening the CZ-0033 heliport. It has been permanently and officially superseded by the superior LKHOHO rooftop facility. The new heliport is safer, more efficient, and better integrated with the hospital's critical care departments. Reverting to the old ground-level site would be a significant operational and safety downgrade, and there are no plans or reasons to do so.
