Stephenville Dymond International Airport (IATA: YJT, ICAO: CYJT) is a public aerodrome located 1.5 nautical miles (2.8 km; 1.7 mi) southeast of Stephenville, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
Type of facility and operations: The airport is currently designated as a "registered aerodrome" by Nav Canada, a downgrade from its previous airport status. This means it is not subject to ongoing inspection by Transport Canada but is periodically inspected for regulatory compliance. It is open to the public. The airport has a single asphalt runway, 09/27, which is 10,011 feet (3,051 meters) long and 200 feet wide,. It offers fuel (JA-1 with FSII available), oil, storage, minor and major repairs, and de-icing services,. Aircraft Rescue and Fire-fighting is rated at CAT 5, with CAT 6 available with 30 minutes prior notice. The airport previously had commercial flights but ended passenger service in January 2020 due to the pandemic. Air ambulances continue to use the aerodrome for medical emergencies.
Notable features or history: The airport was built by the United States Army Air Forces in 1941 and operated as Ernest Harmon Air Force Base until 1966. It was a major passenger airport for western Newfoundland until the early 1990s. It was also one of five sites along eastern North America designated as an alternate landing site for the Space Shuttle orbiter. In September 2021, the Dymond Group announced plans to purchase the airport, with the purchase closing in August 2023,.
Current status: As of March 2025, Transport Canada downgraded the airport to a registered aerodrome. On June 3, 2025, the airport closed temporarily after its electrical service was disconnected due to unpaid bills. In January 2026, an interim receiver was appointed for the airport, and in March 2026, the airport was placed into receivership and put up for sale. Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) services at the site are suspended until further notice as of June 2025. The airport currently does not have any commercial flights operating.
