Taxi services are available to take passengers to and from Tofino, Ucluelet, and surrounding areas. Companies like Tofino Taxi operate in the region. It is highly recommended to pre-book your taxi in advance, as they do not always wait at the airport for arriving flights, especially during off-peak hours.
Budget Car Rental is the primary on-site provider and has a counter located directly inside the airport terminal. Due to high demand, especially during the summer season, booking a vehicle well in advance of your trip is essential. Other rental agencies may be available in the town of Tofino, but not at the airport itself.
BC Transit operates Route 20 (Tofino-Ucluelet Connector), which provides a connection between the two towns. The bus stop is located on the Pacific Rim Highway at the airport junction, requiring a short walk (approx. 5-10 minutes) to and from the terminal. Additionally, a free seasonal shuttle often runs in the summer, also stopping at the highway junction. Always check the current BC Transit schedule online as service frequency can vary.
Reply to @philippe:west apron is now closed..Nanaimo radio directs all traffic to apron at new terminal (adjacent to fuel pumps)
With the town of Tofino just 15 minutes away, a new terminal just completed and upgrades to the airport in the works this is a great destination to fly into to experience the wild west coast of Vancouver Island. Accomodations range from the renowned Wickaninnish Inn and its ocean view restaurant, "The Pointe" to excellent hostels, budget motels and Vacation Rentals there is something for everyone. Budget Rental car is available at the airport too so transportation is immediately available year round.
Orca Airways flies daily between the South terminal of Vancouver International and Tofino. They use Piper Navajos; 2 pilots on board plus 7 passengers maximum. Everyone gets a window seat!
I drove to the airport out of curiosity, when I was vacationing in the area, in 2003. A Canadian Forces team was there running tests on a UAV.
Beautiful run coming in. Take a bike and ride to Long Beach Lodge for extremely fine dining and an even more phenomenal beach... great surfing destination
If you park on the western ramp, there is a path that takes you through a campground and then accross the road to a beautiful footpath through the woods and a fantastic beach. Beautiful place. I'm jealous of all these west coast folks.
