🇨🇩 Boma Lukandu International Airport

Boma Lukandu International Airport (CD-0024) is a new international airport facility under construction in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is situated at Lukandu, approximately 22 kilometers (14 miles) northwest of the city of Boma in Kongo Central Province. This airport is distinct from the older Boma Airport (IATA: BOA, ICAO: FZAJ).

Type of Facility and Operations: Boma Lukandu International Airport is being developed as a public, international airport, planned to become the fifth international airport in the Democratic Republic of Congo upon its completion. It is designed to accommodate international flights and improve regional connectivity. Currently, its IATA and ICAO codes are pending.

Notable Features and History: Construction of the airport began with the completion of a 2,000-meter (6,600 feet) clay-surfaced runway in 2013. Plans include extending this runway to 3,000 meters (9,800 feet) to handle larger aircraft. Future infrastructure is expected to encompass a control tower, a passenger terminal, a hangar, and various ground-handling facilities. The airport's elevation is 281 feet (86 meters) above mean sea level.

Current Status: As of January 2026, Boma Lukandu International Airport remains under construction. There has been no official announcement regarding its operational launch date. While some sources indicate "Operational" status with "Private" facility use, this likely refers to its ongoing development phases rather than full commercial operation.
