I am not anonymous... that was me... Erissa from Cobalt Aviation , Pitt Meadows that flew my 182 in with Barry in his 172
I flew my 182 in with Barry in his 172 ... from CYPK. Without notice, Jim came out to greet me...NICER than your long lost uncle! WOW... what a place. Warm, clean, lots of space and the view to the kill of Desolation sound. THE HOSPITALITY is first class bar none!!!! Great folks laid out Dianne's fresh baking and cheese and cold cuts and tea.... and begged us to stay. AND I even left with a bottle of Jam from Diane's personal creation made from Salal berries she harvested there. Incredible place. It is now for sale!
A goup of us from King George Airpark in Surrey flew into Cortes with almost no notice and arrived to find lunch ready for pilots and passengers from eight airplanes. Jim and Diane are a real asset to the flying community. We will be back.
James Shepherd.
super cool folks. I recently completed a water improvement contract for BC Parks at Smelt Bay adjacent to Hansen airfield, Bought gravel from Jim and Diane, got to know them a bit, very nice folks, real salt-of-the-earth people. Watch out, 4 hours will pass and you'll still be drinking coffee, hearing great stories from Jim and Diane. The guy has a nice new little Hitachi excavator and an old Cat dozer, that airstrip is getting better and better.
have fun flying here....
I was into Hansen Airfield on Cortes Island on August 03, 2009. What a great place to fly into. The runway is in fine shape and there's plenty of room for parking. Jim Hansen supplies tie downs and you won't find a friendly airport anywhere. If you're looking for a new place to fly try Hansen Airfield. It's in the Canada Flight Supplement and is an easy flight from the lower mainland of BC.
Super nice people and a wide and long airstrip. Jim and Diane go above and beyond being hospitable and thier home (lodge) is unique (very cool) which is located right at the end of the runway or beginning.
It's 2600 feet long and Jim continues to lengthen and widen it.
