Approximately 2006. The airport was listed as operational in the Canada Flight Supplement until 2005 but was de-registered and permanently closed after the land was sold for development.
Economic reasons. The airport was a private venture owned by the Harper family. The land became more valuable for real estate than for aviation operations, leading the owners to sell the property to a developer for the construction of a new residential subdivision.
The site of the former airport has been completely redeveloped into a residential housing subdivision called 'Perthmore'. While no physical traces of the runway, hangars, or terminal building remain, the airport's history is commemorated in the development's street names, which include Airport Drive, Kitty Hawk Crescent, Wright Crescent, and Earhart Street. The layout of some roads and properties loosely follows the alignment of the former runway.
Perth / Harper Field was a significant general aviation aerodrome for the Eastern Ontario region. Established and operated by the Harper family, it served as a community hub for private pilots and aviation enthusiasts for several decades. The field featured a 3,100-foot turf runway (04/22) and supported a variety of operations including recreational flying, flight training, and was home to the Rideau Lakes Flying Club. It was a classic example of a small, privately-owned public-use airport that played a vital role in the local transportation and recreation network before urban expansion led to its closure.
None. The land has been permanently and fully repurposed for residential use. There is no possibility of the airport reopening at this location.
