Avonmore Aerodrome

Economic and personal reasons. Avonmore was a privately owned and operated aerodrome (PPR - Prior Permission Required). The closure is attributed to the owner's decision to sell the property or cease aviation activities. This is a common fate for small, private airfields due to maintenance costs, liability, and owner retirement, rather than a specific incident or regulatory action.

The site remains private property. Satellite imagery confirms the location and shows that the grass runway is still clearly visible and appears to be mowed and maintained as a large, open field. The hangar building at the north end of the property also remains standing. However, it is no longer a registered or active aerodrome and is not used for aviation purposes. The land is part of a private rural residence.

Avonmore Aerodrome was a small, private general aviation facility. Its significance was local, serving the recreational flying needs of its owner and possibly a few other pilots in the area. It featured a single, well-maintained grass runway (Runway 18/36, approximately 2,600 feet long) and a hangar. Operations were limited to small, single-engine aircraft for personal and recreational use. It did not handle commercial, military, or significant flight training operations.

There are no known public plans or prospects for reopening Avonmore Aerodrome. As the land is privately owned, any decision to reactivate it would be solely at the discretion and expense of the current landowner. Given the significant costs, regulatory hurdles, and liability associated with operating an aerodrome, a reopening is considered highly improbable.
