1989
Urban encroachment and economic factors. By the late 1980s, the rapid expansion of the suburban city of Kanata (now part of Ottawa) had reached the airfield's perimeter. The land's value for residential development far exceeded its value as a gliding field. The Ottawa Gliding Club sold the property to a developer in 1989 to fund their relocation to a more suitable, rural location.
The site of the former airfield has been completely redeveloped and is now unrecognizable as an aviation facility. The land is occupied by the dense suburban residential neighbourhood of Bridlewood in Kanata, Ottawa. The former runway and airfield grounds are now covered with single-family homes, streets (such as Stonehaven Drive, Bridlewood Drive, and Steeplechase Drive), community parks (including Kristina Kiss Park and Oldfield Park), and Bridlewood Community Elementary School. There are no remaining traces of the airport.
Lakeview Farm was the dedicated home of the Ottawa Gliding Club (OGC) for over two decades, from 1968 to 1989. The club purchased this former farmer's field in 1968 after moving from Carp Airport and named it Lakeview Farm. It served as a key private aviation facility in the National Capital Region for glider training and recreational soaring. Operations consisted of launching sailplanes via both winch and aero-tow, utilizing a single turf runway (approximately 2,400 feet long, oriented roughly NW/SE). The field was a hub for the local soaring community and played a significant role in the club's history before it relocated and eventually became Rideau Valley Soaring. The identifier CA-1202 was a private, non-official code used for flight planning purposes.
There are zero prospects for reopening. The land has been permanently and irreversibly converted to high-density residential use. Re-establishing an airfield at this location is physically and legally impossible due to the existing urban development and population.
