Circa 2002-2003. While an exact date is not officially recorded in public databases, analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the runway was intact in 2002 and the first signs of residential road construction on the site appear in 2003-2004.
Economic reasons, specifically urban development. The land occupied by the airport became highly valuable for real estate. The owner sold the land to a developer for the construction of a large-scale residential housing project, a common fate for small general aviation airports located near expanding suburban areas.
The site has been completely and permanently redeveloped into a dense residential neighborhood. The former airport grounds are now occupied by hundreds of single-family homes and townhouses. As a tribute to the site's past, the streets in the development have aviation-themed names, such as Rue de l'Aviation, Rue du Cessna, Rue du Piper, and Rue de l'Aéro-Club.
Chambly Airport was a small, private general aviation airfield. Its primary function was to serve the local recreational flying community. It was home to the 'Aéro-Club de la Montérégie' and was used for flight training, private aircraft storage (in small hangars), and recreational flights. It typically featured a single unpaved (grass or gravel) runway. The airport was a local hub for aviation enthusiasts in the Montérégie region south of Montreal but had no scheduled commercial or significant military operations.
None. The prospect of reopening the airport is effectively zero. The land has been fully built over with permanent residential infrastructure, making it physically impossible to restore aviation operations at this location.
