Circa 1968-1975. The exact date is not officially documented, but the airport's closure coincides with the opening of the new, larger Sherbrooke Airport (CYSC) in 1967. Aeronautical charts from 1966 show the airport as active, while charts from 1976 no longer list it, indicating it was closed sometime within that period.
The primary reason for closure was obsolescence and consolidation. The opening of the modern Sherbrooke Airport (CYSC) with paved runways, instrument approaches, and superior facilities made the small, private grass strip at Airview redundant. Local aviation operations, including the Sherbrooke Aero Club, migrated to the new regional airport. Subsequently, the valuable land was repurposed by the adjacent Bishop's University.
The site of the former airport has been completely repurposed. It is now the location of the 'Ferme de recherche et de formation agroalimentaire de l'Université de Sherbrooke' (Agri-food Research and Training Farm of the University of Sherbrooke). The land is actively used for agricultural research, crop cultivation, and educational programs. No traces of the runway or airport infrastructure remain, although the open, flat layout of the fields is a remnant of its past as an airfield.
Airview Airport was a privately owned airfield that served as a vital hub for general aviation in the Lennoxville and Sherbrooke area from the post-WWII era until its closure. Its main significance was as the home of the Sherbrooke Aero Club, where it supported flight training, recreational flying, and private aircraft operations. It played a key role in fostering the local aviation community before the region's air services were consolidated at a larger, government-supported facility.
There are zero plans or prospects for reopening Airview Airport. The land has been fully integrated into the University of Sherbrooke's campus for agricultural research for several decades. The region is well-served by the nearby Sherbrooke Airport (CYSC), eliminating any need for a new airfield at this location.
