Approximately November 2020. The heliport was officially decommissioned following the inauguration of its replacement (CTH9) on November 2, 2020.
The heliport was closed due to a major hospital modernization and expansion project known as the 'Nouveau complexe hospitalier' (NCH) of the CHU de Québec-Université Laval. The old ground-level heliport (CA-1104) was deemed obsolete and was replaced by a new, state-of-the-art rooftop heliport (ICAO: CTH9) on the hospital's new critical care wing. This replacement was strategic, as the new facility provides direct elevator access to the trauma center and operating rooms, significantly reducing patient transfer times and eliminating the need for a secondary ambulance transfer from the landing pad to the emergency department.
The site of the former CA-1104 heliport has been completely redeveloped and integrated into the new, expanded hospital campus. The physical infrastructure of the old heliport no longer exists. All helicopter operations for the Hôpital de l'Enfant-Jésus are now handled by the new, active rooftop heliport, identified by ICAO code CTH9.
CA-1104 was a ground-level heliport that served as the primary air medical facility for the Hôpital de l'Enfant-Jésus, which is the designated Level 1 adult trauma center for all of eastern Quebec. For many years, it played a critical role in the regional healthcare system, handling medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) and emergency medical services (EMS) flights. It was essential for the rapid transport of critically ill and injured patients from remote areas and other medical facilities, directly contributing to saving lives by providing swift access to specialized care.
There are zero prospects for reopening the CA-1104 heliport. It has been permanently decommissioned and physically replaced. Its function has been entirely and more effectively superseded by the modern CTH9 heliport, which is now the sole and permanent air medical facility for the hospital.
