Approximately late 2020. The heliport was officially decommissioned upon the certification and opening of its replacement, the new Brockville General Hospital Helipad (CPH9), in the fall of 2020. The physical site was removed during the hospital's construction project which began in 2018.
Obsolescence and replacement due to hospital modernization. The Brockville General Hospital underwent a major redevelopment, including the construction of the new Donald B. Green Tower. As part of this project, the old ground-level heliport (CA-1083) was replaced by a modern, elevated rooftop helipad (ICAO: CPH9) built atop the new tower. The new facility provides safer, more direct, and faster 'door-to-door' access for patients to the emergency and critical care units, meeting contemporary healthcare and aviation standards.
The site of the former heliport no longer exists. The land where the ground-level pad was located has been completely redeveloped as part of the hospital's expansion. The area is now occupied by the footprint of the new hospital tower, associated buildings, and parking infrastructure. All air ambulance operations for the hospital now utilize the new, fully operational rooftop helipad, Brockville General Hospital Helipad (ICAO: CPH9).
Brockville (Medical) Heliport (CA-1083) was a ground-level helipad located on the property of the Brockville General Hospital's Charles Street site. For many years, it was a critical piece of infrastructure for the regional emergency medical system. Its primary operation was handling air ambulance flights, predominantly operated by Ornge. The heliport was essential for the rapid medical evacuation of critically injured or ill patients from Brockville and the surrounding United Counties of Leeds and Grenville to larger, specialized trauma and care centers in cities such as Kingston and Ottawa. It played a vital role in saving lives by shortening transport times for time-sensitive medical cases.
There are zero prospects for reopening CA-1083. The heliport has been physically eliminated and its function has been permanently superseded by a new, superior, and fully certified facility (CPH9) at the same location. The replacement helipad is the sole and official air ambulance destination for the Brockville General Hospital.
