Ellis Field Airport

Cessation of private operations. Ellis Field was a private aerodrome, not a public airport. Its closure was not due to a major accident, military conversion, or broad economic failure. The owner likely decided to cease official operations, leading to its de-listing from the Canada Flight Supplement. This is a common reason for the closure of small, privately-owned airstrips.

The site remains a private residential property. Satellite imagery of the coordinates (44.156101, -81.400597) shows that the physical infrastructure of the airport is still largely intact. The grass runway is clearly visible and appears to be well-maintained and mowed. A hangar structure is also still present on the property. Although officially closed and no longer a registered aerodrome with Transport Canada, it exists as a private, unregistered landing strip that could potentially be used by the current property owner.

Ellis Field was a registered private general aviation aerodrome. Its identifier, CA-1073, was not an official ICAO code (which start with 'C' for Canada) but rather a local or database-specific identifier. The field was owned and operated by a private individual, Donald Ellis, for personal use. When active, it featured a single turf runway (14/32) with dimensions of approximately 2600 feet by 100 feet. Its significance was primarily local, serving as a convenient, private base for light aircraft and contributing to the general aviation landscape of the Kincardine area before its official closure.

There are no known public plans or prospects for reopening Ellis Field as an officially registered aerodrome. The nearby Kincardine Municipal Airport (ICAO: CYKM) is a fully serviced public airport that fulfills the region's aviation needs. A public reopening of Ellis Field would be redundant and is highly unlikely. Any future official aviation activity at the site would be entirely at the discretion of the private property owner and would require re-registration with Transport Canada.
