Golden (Canadian Helicopters) Heliport

Operational consolidation. Canadian Helicopters constructed a new, modern hangar and operations facility at the nearby Golden Airport (CYGE) and moved its entire base of operations there. This strategic move was likely driven by the desire for more efficient operations, access to CYGE's superior infrastructure (including a paved runway, fuel services, and instrument approaches), and to centralize their services at the primary aviation hub for the region, which itself underwent significant upgrades around 2014.

The site has been completely repurposed for non-aviation industrial use. An analysis of the location at 51.304475, -116.983535 shows that the former hangar and office building are now occupied by other commercial businesses, including an electrical contractor ('Selkirk Power'). While the concrete helipads and general layout of the facility may still be faintly visible from satellite imagery, it is no longer an active or recognizable heliport.

For many years, the Golden (Canadian Helicopters) Heliport was a critical base for helicopter operations in the rugged terrain of the Rocky and Columbia Mountains surrounding Golden. It was instrumental in supporting the region's key industries. Operations handled from this heliport included:
- **Heli-Skiing:** Providing transport for numerous world-renowned heli-skiing companies operating in the area.
- **Forestry:** Supporting wildfire suppression efforts for the BC Wildfire Service, as well as heli-logging and silviculture operations.
- **Resource Exploration:** Assisting with mining and mineral exploration activities in remote, mountainous locations.
- **Infrastructure Support:** Playing a vital role in the construction and maintenance of hydroelectric transmission lines for BC Hydro.
- **Emergency Services:** Acting as a base for potential search and rescue (SAR) and emergency medical transport missions in the nearby national parks (Yoho, Glacier) and backcountry.

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening this site as a heliport. With Canadian Helicopters (now part of the HNZ/PHI group) fully established at the modern Golden Airport (CYGE), there is no operational or economic incentive to return to this smaller, private facility. All future helicopter aviation development in Golden is expected to be centered at CYGE.
