Calgary (Westport) Heliport

Urban redevelopment and public infrastructure development. The heliport was located on the grounds of the Westbrook Mall, which was redeveloped to build the Calgary Transit Westbrook LRT Station and its associated transit plaza and parking facilities. The heliport's location was directly in the path of this major project.

The site of the former heliport has been completely redeveloped. It is now occupied by the Westbrook LRT Station, a major hub on Calgary's public transit network, which opened in 2012. The area also includes a transit plaza, bus loops, and reconfigured parking for the adjacent Westbrook Mall. There are no remaining traces of the heliport.

Calgary (Westport) Heliport was a private heliport, not open for public use. Its primary function was likely for corporate or executive transport, possibly serving the owners or major tenants of the Westbrook Mall or other nearby businesses. It may have also been used by helicopter charter companies for private flights or specialized services like aerial photography or news gathering, leveraging its convenient location in southwest Calgary. It was a small, local-use facility and did not handle scheduled passenger traffic or significant cargo operations.

There are no plans or prospects for reopening the heliport. The land has been permanently repurposed for critical public transportation infrastructure. The high density of the area, combined with the presence of the LRT station, overhead power lines for the train, and heavy pedestrian and vehicle traffic, makes re-establishing a heliport at this location infeasible from a safety, regulatory, and logistical standpoint.
