Approximately March 2012. The aerodrome was officially noted as closed in the Canada Flight Supplement (CFS) edition effective March 29, 2012, after being listed as operational in the prior edition.
The closure was a business decision made by the management of Deerhurst Resort. The primary reasons were economic and strategic, likely involving a combination of high maintenance and liability insurance costs, declining use by guests, and the opportunity to repurpose the valuable land for other resort activities. The proximity of the larger, publicly-funded Muskoka Airport (CYQA), which offers superior facilities including paved runways and instrument approaches, made the small private strip largely redundant for serving resort visitors.
The airport is permanently closed and has been completely repurposed. The land formerly occupied by the runway and associated grounds has been integrated into the Deerhurst Lakeside Golf Course. It now functions as the course's driving range and practice facility. Satellite imagery clearly shows the long, straight expanse of the former runway being used for this purpose, with all aviation markings and infrastructure removed.
The airport, officially identified by Transport Canada as CDH1 (the ICAO-style code CA-1018 is a non-official identifier used in some databases), was a private aerodrome exclusively serving the Deerhurst Resort. It featured a single turf runway (Runway 15/33) approximately 2,500 feet in length. Its main purpose was to provide a convenient 'fly-in' option for guests arriving by private, single-engine aircraft like Cessnas and Pipers. For many years, this amenity enhanced the resort's prestige and appeal as a luxury destination in the heart of Muskoka, offering a level of direct access and exclusivity that was unique to the area.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airport. The land has been fully and successfully redeveloped for a core resort activity (golf). Given the significant investment in the golf facility and the comprehensive aviation services provided by the nearby Muskoka Airport (CYQA), there is no practical or economic incentive for the resort to reinstate the airstrip.
