Skyglen Airpark

Economic reasons driven by urban encroachment. As the city of Edmonton expanded northward into Sturgeon County, the land value of the privately-owned airpark increased significantly. The owners sold the land to developers for the construction of a more profitable residential housing subdivision.

The site has been completely redeveloped into a residential community. The former runway, taxiways, and hangars have been replaced by single-family homes, public parks, and a network of streets. In a direct homage to its past, the main road that runs north-south along the exact path of the former runway is named 'Skyglen Road'. The area is part of the Skyview neighbourhood of Edmonton.

Skyglen Airpark was a privately-owned, public-use general aviation airport that served the Edmonton area's recreational flying community. It featured a single turf/grass runway, designated 16/34, with a length of approximately 2,600 feet. The airpark was a cherished local hub for private pilots, small aircraft owners, and flight enthusiasts, known for its friendly, grassroots atmosphere. It primarily handled light single-engine aircraft and did not support commercial or military operations. Its significance was as a key piece of general aviation infrastructure for the region before being lost to urban sprawl.

None. The prospect of reopening Skyglen Airpark is zero. The land has been permanently and densely redeveloped for residential use, making any return to aviation operations at this location impossible. There are no known plans or discussions to re-establish the airport.
