Airport Closure Information

Last updated: Jul 25, 2025
Closure Date

Circa mid-to-late 2000s. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the runway was still clear and potentially usable in 2004, but by 2009, a large private residence had been constructed on the southern portion of the strip, rendering it permanently unusable.

Reason for Closure

Private land development. King Eddys Landing Field was a private airstrip. The land was subsequently developed for residential purposes, with several large-lot homes and outbuildings constructed directly on the former runway's alignment. This conversion from aviation to residential use was a private decision by the landowner(s).

Current Status

The site of the former airport has been fully converted into private residential and agricultural estates. The distinct, straight line of the former runway is still visible on satellite maps, but it is now a grassy corridor flanked by and built upon with multiple large homes and accessory buildings. The land is entirely in private hands and used for non-aviation purposes.

Historical Significance

King Eddys Landing Field was a small, private, and unregistered airstrip serving the local general aviation community. Its significance was primarily personal to its owners and local pilots who may have used it. The facility consisted of a single unpaved (grass/gravel) runway, estimated to be around 2,700 feet long. It would have handled light, single-engine aircraft such as Cessnas or Pipers for recreational flying. It held no major commercial, military, or regional historical significance but was part of the fabric of private aviation in the North Okanagan.

Reopening Prospects

Zero. There are no plans or prospects for reopening King Eddys Landing Field. The permanent construction of multiple private residences directly on the former runway makes any future aviation use impossible without the acquisition and demolition of numerous private properties, which is not feasible or planned.
