Approximately between 2012 and 2014. The aerodrome was officially listed in the Canadian Flight Supplement (CFS) through at least 2009. Analysis of historical satellite imagery shows the runway was still distinct in 2012 but was visibly being reclaimed for agriculture by 2015, indicating closure occurred within that timeframe.
The specific reason is not publicly documented, but evidence strongly suggests it was due to the private owner ceasing aviation operations. As a private aerodrome registered to an individual (J. Rawlings), its closure was almost certainly a personal decision, likely related to retirement from flying, health, or the sale of the property. The subsequent conversion of the land back to full agricultural use supports this, ruling out reasons like military conversion or a specific accident.
The airport is permanently closed and no longer exists in an operational capacity. Current satellite imagery of the coordinates shows that the land formerly occupied by the runway has been fully integrated into the surrounding farmland and is actively cultivated with crops. A large building, believed to be the original hangar, is still standing on the north side of the former runway area and appears to be in use as a farm equipment storage shed. The entire site is private agricultural property.
Forest Airport was a small, private aerodrome with no major commercial or military historical significance. Its importance was localized, serving as a personal base for its owner and potentially other local general aviation pilots who had obtained prior permission to use it. According to the Canadian Flight Supplement from its active period, the airport featured a single grass runway designated 10/28, with dimensions of approximately 2400 feet in length and 100 feet in width. Operations would have consisted of light, single-engine aircraft typical of general aviation (e.g., Cessna, Piper) capable of using a short, unpaved turf runway.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening Forest Airport. The physical runway has been eliminated and the land has been successfully converted back to productive farmland. Re-establishing an aerodrome on the site would be cost-prohibitive and impractical, making the prospect of it ever returning to aviation use extremely unlikely.
