Airport Closure Information

Last updated: Jul 25, 2025
Closure Date

Circa 2012-2013. The aerodrome was officially sold to the municipality for development in a deal finalized in 2012, with operations ceasing permanently around that period.

Reason for Closure

Economic and urban development. The private owner sold the 4.2 million square foot property to the municipality of Saint-Germain-de-Grantham for $2.5 million. The purpose of the acquisition was to expand the local industrial park to attract new businesses and stimulate economic growth in the region.

Current Status

The airport site has been completely and permanently redeveloped. It is now the 'Parc industriel et technologique de la MRC de Drummond' (Industrial and Technological Park of the Drummond RCM). The runway, taxiways, and all aviation infrastructure have been demolished and replaced with a grid of industrial streets (such as Rue des Négociants and Rue des Entrepreneurs), large industrial buildings, and commercial warehouses. There are no visible remnants of the former runway on current satellite imagery.

Historical Significance

Saint Germain Airport was a private, registered aerodrome that primarily served the general aviation community in the Drummondville region of Quebec. It was a local hub for recreational flying, private pilots, and potentially small-scale flight training or charter services. It featured a single paved runway (approximately 3000 ft x 75 ft) and basic facilities like hangars. The airport did not have significant military or large-scale commercial operations; its importance was rooted in supporting the local aviation community and providing a convenient landing strip for light aircraft.

Reopening Prospects

None. The prospect of reopening the airport is zero. The land has been fully repurposed, sold, and developed into a key economic zone for the municipality, making any return to aviation use impossible.
