Nakusp Water Aerodrome

The closure was administrative rather than due to economic failure, accident, or lack of use. The original registration (CAY8) was likely cancelled following a change in the registered operator. The Village of Nakusp subsequently established a new, officially registered water aerodrome in the exact same location under the new Transport Canada Identifier CJE7, effectively replacing the old designation to ensure continuity of service.

The physical site of the former aerodrome is not closed or abandoned. It is an active, registered water aerodrome operating as the 'Nakusp (Village) Water Aerodrome' under the new Transport Canada Location Identifier CJE7. It occupies the same coordinates on Upper Arrow Lake and continues to serve as a base for floatplanes, with a public dock available for aircraft mooring.

As a water aerodrome on Upper Arrow Lake, the site has historically been a key access point for the West Kootenay region. Under its former identifier (CAY8), it handled significant floatplane traffic crucial for the local economy and transportation. Operations included: tourism and sightseeing flights over the Selkirk and Monashee mountains, transportation for the forestry industry (moving crews and supplies), providing access to remote backcountry lodges and recreational areas, and serving general aviation pilots.

There are no prospects or plans to reopen the aerodrome under its former identifier (CA-0542 / CAY8). This is unnecessary because the physical location never ceased operations and is currently open and fully functional under the new, official designation CJE7.
