Approximately 2016-2017. The heliport ceased to be actively used following the collapse of its primary operator, Héli-Express (a division of Héli-Inter). While an exact official closure date is not documented in public records, the site fell into disuse around this time, with satellite imagery showing significant fading of markings and lack of activity in subsequent years.
Economic reasons. The heliport was a private facility operated almost exclusively by the helicopter tour company Héli-Express. The parent company, Héli-Inter, encountered severe financial and operational problems, culminating in the complete cessation of its activities. The closure of the heliport was a direct consequence of its sole tenant going out of business.
The site is now part of a commercial property owned by a local business, 'Cidrerie et Vergers Bilodeau', a well-known apple cidery and orchard. The original concrete helipad, including the circular landing zone and a faded 'H' marking, is still physically present and visible from satellite view. However, it is no longer maintained or used for aviation purposes and effectively serves as a paved lot or open space for the cidery's operations.
The Île d'Orléans Heliport was a significant site for regional tourism. It served as the primary base of operations for Héli-Express, which offered popular scenic helicopter tours. From this location, tourists could take flights over the historic Île d'Orléans, the impressive Montmorency Falls, and the UNESCO World Heritage site of Old Québec. The heliport contributed to the local tourism economy by providing a unique attraction for visitors to the island.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the heliport. The land has been fully repurposed by the cidery, and the original aviation infrastructure is not maintained. Given that the former operator is defunct and the property is now used for a successful agricultural and tourism business, a return to aviation use is highly unlikely.
