Airport Closure Information

Last updated: Jul 24, 2025
Closure Date

Approximately late 2020 to early 2021. The airport was permanently closed to accommodate the construction of a new project on the site.

Reason for Closure

The airport was closed due to land redevelopment for economic reasons. The property was acquired by Kruger Energy for the construction of the Saint-Simon Solar Farm, a large-scale solar power generation facility. The land's value for renewable energy production outweighed its use as a private airfield.

Current Status

The site has been completely transformed and is no longer an airport. It is now the location of the Kruger Energy Solar Farm (Parc solaire de Saint-Simon-de-Bagot). The former runway, taxiways, and any associated hangars have been demolished and replaced by thousands of solar panels and related power infrastructure. The land is now an active power generation facility.

Historical Significance

St-Simon-De-Bagot was a private, registered aerodrome that primarily served the general aviation community. It featured a single turf runway (06/24) approximately 3000 feet in length. The airport was a hub for local recreational pilots, flight enthusiasts, and owners of small private aircraft in Quebec's Montérégie region. It did not handle commercial, scheduled, or military operations, but it was a valuable asset for local aviation for several decades.

Reopening Prospects

There are zero prospects for reopening the airport. The land has been permanently and completely redeveloped for industrial use as a solar farm. The significant investment in the energy infrastructure and the removal of all aviation facilities make a return to its former use as an airport impossible.
