Skocdopole Farms Airport

As a private aerodrome located on a family farm, the closure was due to the cessation of private use. This is typical for such airstrips and is generally caused by the owner retiring from flying, selling their aircraft, passing away, or repurposing the land for other agricultural priorities. It was not closed for economic, military, or accident-related reasons.

The site remains part of an active agricultural property, Skocdopole Farms, near Big Valley, Alberta. The physical outline of the former runway is still faintly visible from the air but it is no longer maintained for aviation. The land is overgrown and has been integrated back into general farm use, likely for vehicle access or equipment storage. The airport is permanently closed to all air traffic.

The airport held local significance as a private airstrip serving the needs of its owners and potentially the local community with permission. It was not a public or commercial airport and had no scheduled flights. Operations would have been limited to general aviation, supporting light, single-engine aircraft for personal transportation, recreational flying, and possibly agricultural activities like crop spraying. Its turf runway was suitable for basic VFR (Visual Flight Rules) operations.

There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airport. As a decommissioned private strip, its restoration would be entirely at the discretion and expense of the current or future landowner for their own personal use. A reopening is considered highly unlikely.
