Approximately between 2018 and 2020. The aerodrome was last listed in official publications like the Canada Flight Supplement (CFS) around 2018. It was subsequently de-registered with Transport Canada and is no longer listed as an active landing site.
Economic and operational reasons. The airport was a private aerodrome, officially known as Riske Creek (Becher's) Aerodrome (Transport Canada Identifier: CBJ4), and its existence was tied directly to the operation of Becher's Lodge, a fly-in guest ranch and fishing lodge. The closure of the aerodrome coincided with the cessation or change in operations of the lodge it served. As a private facility, once the business no longer required it, it was no longer maintained or registered.
The site is fully decommissioned and is no longer a registered or usable aerodrome. Satellite imagery of the coordinates shows the faint outline of the former runway, which is now completely overgrown and blending into the surrounding pastureland. The land is private property associated with the former lodge and is not used for any aviation activities.
The aerodrome's significance was primarily local and commercial. It served as a crucial private access point for guests flying into the remote Chilcotin region of British Columbia. Its main purpose was to facilitate fly-in tourism for Becher's Lodge, allowing guests to bypass the long drive on rural roads. Operations consisted of small, single-engine general aviation aircraft (such as Cessna, Piper, or de Havilland Beaver types) operating under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). The facility featured a single turf and gravel runway (15/33) approximately 2600 feet long, characteristic of a bush strip designed for light aircraft.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airport. Any potential reopening would be entirely dependent on a new private owner of the land investing in restoring the runway to a safe condition and re-registering the aerodrome with Transport Canada. Given that its original purpose was tied to a specific business that no longer operates in the same capacity, there is no current public or commercial driver for its revival.
