The exact date of closure is unknown. Based on analysis of historical satellite imagery and aviation database records, the airport was likely active in the 1980s and fell into disuse through the 1990s. It was officially listed as 'closed' in aeronautical databases like the Digital Aeronautical Flight Information File (DAFIF) by the mid-2000s, suggesting it was formally abandoned sometime in the late 1990s or early 2000s.
Economic reasons. The airport was a private, remote airstrip almost certainly built to support a specific industrial project, such as a mining exploration camp, a forestry operation, or a geological survey. Its closure would have coincided with the completion of the project, the depletion of resources, or the economic infeasibility of the operation it served. This type of abandonment is common for remote, single-purpose airfields in Canada.
The site is completely abandoned and is being reclaimed by nature. High-resolution satellite imagery shows the runway outline is still visible, but it is heavily overgrown with grass, shrubs, and mature trees, rendering it completely unusable for any aviation purposes. There is no evidence of any remaining intact buildings or infrastructure at the site.
The airport's significance was purely logistical and local. It held no major regional or national importance. Its purpose was to provide essential air access for personnel and light cargo to an otherwise inaccessible wilderness location in the Omineca Mountains. Operations would have consisted of light general aviation aircraft, such as de Havilland Beavers, Cessna 185s, or similar bush planes, operating under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). The unpaved runway was approximately 3,000 feet long, suitable for these types of Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) aircraft.
There are no known plans or prospects for reopening the airport. Given its extreme remoteness, lack of road access, and the absence of any current economic driver in the immediate vicinity, the cost to clear the land, rebuild the runway, and re-establish facilities would be substantial. A reopening would only be conceivable if a major new industrial or resource extraction project were to commence in the area, for which there are currently no public proposals.
