Approximately 2003. The airport was officially closed to coincide with the opening of its replacement, the new Lac-Mégantic Airport (CSD4).
The airport was closed due to a planned relocation and urban development. Its location, close to the town center, had limited potential for expansion and modernization. A new, more modern airport (CSD4) was constructed at a more suitable location further from the town, which allowed the land of the original airport to be redeveloped to meet the community's housing needs.
The site of the former airport has been completely and permanently redeveloped into a residential neighborhood. The original runway's path is now occupied by streets, most notably 'Rue de l'Aéroport' (Airport Street). The land where the runway and airport facilities once stood is now covered with single-family homes. No physical trace of the airport infrastructure remains.
Mégantic Airport (CA-0254) was the original general aviation airfield for the Lac-Mégantic region. It featured a single turf runway (04/22) approximately 3,000 feet long. For decades, it served as a vital link for the local community, supporting private pilots, flight training, recreational flying, and small-scale air taxi or charter services. Its operations were limited to smaller aircraft due to the unpaved, relatively short runway. Its primary significance was its role in providing the area's first dedicated air access before being superseded by a more capable facility.
Zero. There are no plans or prospects for reopening this airport. The site has been irreversibly converted to residential use, and the aviation needs of the Lac-Mégantic area are fully served by the newer and superior Lac-Mégantic Airport (CSD4).
