Circa 2007-2008. The airport was officially delisted from the Canada Flight Supplement (CFS) between the 2006 and 2008 editions, indicating it ceased recognized operations during that timeframe.
Economic reasons and land redevelopment. The airport was a privately owned strip known as Gauthier Field. Following the death of the owner, the family sold the land. The property was subsequently acquired for industrial use, specifically for the development of a large sand and gravel pit (sablière), which was a more profitable use of the real estate.
The site has been completely redeveloped and is now part of an active, large-scale industrial sand and gravel pit operated by Sablière L'Ange-Gardien. Satellite imagery clearly shows that the land where the runway once existed has been extensively excavated. While a faint, overgrown outline of the former runway is still partially visible, the site is fundamentally altered and is an active industrial zone. All airport infrastructure, such as hangars or service buildings, has been removed.
Buckingham Airport, also known by its official private identifier CTH3 and as 'Gauthier Field', was a general aviation airfield significant to the local flying community in the Outaouais region. It served private pilots and small aircraft owners, providing a crucial hub for recreational flying. The airport featured a single turf and gravel runway (13/31) approximately 2,600 feet long. It did not handle scheduled commercial flights or military operations but was a classic example of a small, privately-owned airstrip that supports a local aviation ecosystem. The identifier 'CA-0064' is a non-standard code used by some third-party databases to list unregistered or closed airfields.
There are zero prospects for reopening the airport. The land has been physically and irreversibly transformed by the sand and gravel quarrying operations. The excavation has rendered the terrain unsuitable for an airfield, and the current industrial land use makes any restoration for aviation purposes infeasible.
