Anglemont Airport

The primary reason for the closure was land development. The privately-owned land on which the airport was situated was sold and re-purposed for a residential housing subdivision to meet the growing demand for property in the popular Shuswap Lake recreational area.

The airport site has been completely and permanently converted into a residential subdivision. The former runway and surrounding airport grounds are now occupied by single-family homes and paved roads. The history of the site is commemorated in the street names of the development, which include 'Airstrip Road' and 'Runway Road'. While the layout of these roads still loosely follows the alignment of the former runway, no aviation infrastructure remains.

Anglemont Airport (CA-0025) was a small, unregistered aerodrome that served the community of Anglemont and the surrounding North Shuswap region. It featured a single turf and gravel runway (approximately 2,600 feet long) and primarily handled private, general aviation traffic. Its operations were crucial for recreational flyers visiting Shuswap Lake, local pilots, and potentially for providing access for emergency services. The airport supported small, single-engine aircraft like Cessnas and Pipers, acting as a convenient local air link for a community accessible primarily by road.

There are zero prospects for reopening the airport. The land has been irreversibly developed for residential use, with numerous private homes and public infrastructure built directly on the former runway and taxiway areas. Re-establishing an airport at this location would be legally, financially, and logistically impossible.
