Cutlass Bay Airport

Economic reasons tied to the closure of the associated resort. The airport was a private airstrip built and operated exclusively for the Cutlass Bay Club, a fly-in resort. When the resort ceased operations and was abandoned, the airport lost its sole purpose and source of funding for maintenance and operations, leading to its subsequent closure and decay.

The airport is completely abandoned and unusable. Satellite imagery confirms the single paved runway is in a severe state of disrepair, heavily overgrown with vegetation, including large bushes and small trees breaking through the asphalt surface. All markings are faded, and the site is being reclaimed by the surrounding natural environment. The adjacent resort buildings are also in ruins. The site is effectively a relic of a past development.

Cutlass Bay Airport was a classic private island airstrip, crucial to the operation of the exclusive Cutlass Bay Club resort on the southern tip of Cat Island. Its primary function was to handle general aviation traffic, allowing guests to fly their private aircraft or take charters directly to the isolated resort from locations like Florida or Nassau. It typically accommodated small single-engine piston aircraft (like Cessnas and Pipers) and twin-engine turboprops. The airport was an essential amenity that provided convenience and privacy, defining the resort as a premier fly-in destination for pilots and affluent travelers.

There are no known public plans or credible prospects for reopening Cutlass Bay Airport. A revival would necessitate a complete and costly reconstruction of the runway and support facilities. Such an investment would likely only be undertaken as part of a large-scale, well-funded project to redevelop the former resort property. Currently, Cat Island is served by two public airports: New Bight Airport (TBI) and Arthur's Town Airport (ATC), which handle the island's commercial and general aviation needs.
